Events

The past few weeks have seen Ummera participating in several events around the country and it was good to meet customers old and new!

The Cork Food Forum event in Cork inspired and entertained. It also launched the Cork Food Finder book which will be soon available as an important online resource at www.tastecork.com

The Fallon and Byrne Christmas Extravaganza night in Dublin showcased some great foods and wines from around Europe. Our smoked duck and smoked salmon amazed many!

The annual conference and awards dinner of Good Food Ireland was held on Tuesday at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin. A great day of mutual congratulation which we all need at least once a year!

Along with other great Irish foods, Ummera smoked bacon was enjoyed at Breakfast, Ummera  Smoked Chicken Drumsticks appeared at lunch and Ummera smoked duck was featured in one of the ten "Surprise Boxes" at Dinner.

The speech by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny was almost too good to be true, but he did raise €1,000 by raffling off a chocolate Santa!

Not many people know this....

Stonewell Cider

Before I got into smoking, I used to be in the wine business and for a short while, I wrote some articles on and about wine "way back when" in the Irish Tatler!

The past came to haunt me the other day when a friend sent me a copy of one of my articles! It really doesn't merit republishing, so I won't, but it does lead me back into drink:

A new hand crafted Irish cider was launched earlier this year, Stonewell Cider. It's made by my brother-in-law at Nohoval, a few miles east of Kinsale in Co. Cork. Last year's vintage is nearly all gone, but the first of the 2012 cider will be ready just in time for Christmas. Made from Irish grown Dabinett, Michelin, Falstaff and Elstar apples, it promises to be very special. There's also another family member involved and he's rather busy swearing at the apples, especially the Elstar I'm informed!

We aren't selling it, but watch out for it next year as Stonewell Cider  goes nationwide!
