Change - seems to be the buzz word in Ireland!

For those outside Ireland, you may not know that we have a General Election at the end of this month and Change seems to be the most popular word that all politicians are enthused about; but our posting on our website is about Change here at Ummera.

If you are not tempted to click through to the page, then say hello to Catherine who has taken over from Anat!

A tweet of a story for St. Valentine's Day

Ummera Smoked Products Ireland

For those who doubt the worthiness of Twitter and confine it to the realms of incessant irrelevant chit chat, let us give you some proof of it's value.

A couple of weeks ago I was watching an episode of MasterChef on Irish Television; they were creating dishes from smoked eel. I thought it might be of interest to others so put out a brief message on Twitter at 8.37pm.

7 minutes later there was an order in from Thomas of The Surfing Goat Dairy in Hawaii!

The Smoked Eel traveled from Cork to Cologne in Germany; from there to Philadelphia and on to Ontario in California before heading across to Honolulu and finally to Kahului and The Surfing Goat Dairy Farm, a total distance as the eel flew of 15,473 km or 9,614 miles.

With a transit time of 51 hours that gives the smoked eel an average speed 303 kph or 188 mph!!

Irish Blog Awards

Imagine our surprise to discover that the Ummera Blog has been nominated for the Best Blog of a Business at the 2011 Irish Blog Awards which will be held on March 19that the Europa Hotel, Belfast!

And given the fact that we hadn't posted a blog since last July until a couple of days ago, we are doubly surprised!!

There are many other nominees in many other categories who really do merit their nomination. Have a look at them, but be warned, the list is very extensive!

Where are we?

Post Codes in Ireland have really been the local pub, nearest church, a certain crossroads, townlands and characters! But now we have one of the most up to date PostCode systems in the world; it's not State run, it's not costing us anything to set up; it's actually there for all to use and benefit from.

Our Government was talking about spending €27 Million to commission yet another report to decide on a postcode system for Ireland. Yet another example of  a waste of our money, when it's already there and working.

Our Postcode at Ummera is WND-86-6WN - Click on it and see!
